So, although Facebook isn't a new website, everyday it changes and becomes more complex as the hours tick away. I thought all day about what I would talk about in my blog and what trends are changing in tooday's society. As usual, I logged into my facebook account and started reading everyone's updated statuses. (Who doesn't?) That's when it hit me!! Facebook is a changing trend in today's society and I'm not sure how much longer I can deal with it.
Facebook began as a social networking website, and now... (drum rolls please) it has become a soap opera! I read some of my friends' statuses and wondered why they were telling their life story on facebook. Some went far enough to mention what they had for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, when they were going to take a shower, and much more!!! Way too much information!!!
Let's not get into how addicting it is!! Facebook is a form of a drug which creates fiends. Like any other, I unfortunately check my facebook more often than I should. I have sowly been trying to get out of this bad habit of checking it when I wake up, when I come home from work, and 2,000 more times during the evening. (I said I was working on it).
In a previous conversation with a friend, we spoke of how technology is changing so rapidly and that we are trying so hard to keep up. Not to mention what it is doing to the way we speak and write, which I will leave for another blog..
Everyone has a facebook these days, even moms!! It is most definitely a huge trend in our society, but is it having a positive or negative effect? Of course, it is always nice to reunite with loved ones and friends from elementary school, and convenient to send a quick message...but.. is it nice that we are spending most of our time online and not with family and friends? is it convenient that we'd rather send a quick message rather than make a quick phone call? Is this new trend good for us? Are we moving forward while still going backward? Think about it..
I agree!!! Even Justin Timberlake and Fifty made a song about it.. Ayo Technology!
ReplyDeleteTechnology is just evolving!!!
ReplyDeleteif you thought facebook was something, wait till you get a twitter account.
ReplyDeleteYes, Ms. Sunshine, I absolutely agree with you on this matter that this social network we call Facebook is completely addicting. I too have fallen victim to checking my Facebook account almost every minute of the day. One time I went to visit a friend and she couldn't even get me away from the computer that she called me a Faceboook Feign...
ReplyDeleteI don't know what it is about Facebook but it really sucks people in!

From Daron:
ReplyDeleteDefinitely agree with you Kim. Facebook is addicting. I don't go on it as much as some people do and I try to keep it that way. I really can't understand how people can spend hours on end checking people's statuses and going through all those ridiculous applications. (Apple doesn't even have that many applications.) But all of this quick messaging stuff really started from the whole texting craze and just expanded into facebook. Some people do it because of the reason that it is convenient, that they don't really feel like talking to that person, and that they always busy with work or school or something else that they're a part of. To me that translates into "too damn lazy to talk to people" and "your life isn't as busy as you make it sound to be." A person always has the time, they just need to make the time for themselves and other people. Sending short messages is ok, but not to completely replace having a regular conversation. And this Twitter shit is already annoying the hell out of me and I don't even have one. In any case, technology is forward, but people in general are moving backwards. Facebook was good to keep in touch with poeple you went to school with before, but not for the reasons its used for today. Hopefully, people will realize that having a one on one conversation is the way to go.

Thanks for the post Daron, I agree totally.
